ST. CHARLES EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PROGRAM (EMT)

An EMT cares for patients at the scene of an incident and takes them by ambulance to a hospital. They have the skills to assess a patient’s condition and manage emergencies related to respiratory, cardiac, or trauma incidents.

Overall employment of EMTs and paramedics is projected to grow 6 percent from 2024 to 2033.

Are you interested in becoming a licensed Emergency Medical Technician? The St. Charles EMT Training Program provides the basic level of training for the emergency care provider and leads to state and national licensure examinations. Students will master basic emergency care skills through classroom training, hands-on skill training, and clinical observation in a hospital emergency department and an ambulance. Upon completing this program, students can take the National Registry Exam (NREMT) for certification by the State of Missouri.

PLEASE NOTE:  To enroll, you MUST pass an entrance exam.  Students must be 18 or older and provide proof of a high school diploma, GED/ HISET, or a college transcript.

For all incoming students, a Missouri criminal background check is required, and fees are paid directly to the Missouri State Highway Patrol at: https://www.machs.mo.gov/MACHSFP/home.html.  Additionally, you must have a current PPD test, a flu shot, and proof of the following immunizations: Varicella and Tdap.

The Emergency Medical Technician program is the first step for any student interested in a career in the healthcare industry.  According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of EMTs and paramedics is projected to grow 11 percent from 2022 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations, due to increased health emergencies as the population of middle-aged and elderly people grows. Those with EMT certification can work as paramedics, firefighters, emergency department technicians, home health care providers, dispatching communications specialists, or health screeners.
